My design philosophy

The place where I learned most of my skills was a copy shop. This means that for years, I had two colors to work with: black and white. Towards the end of my time there, I was doing a lot more work in color, but my entire style is based around the need to communicate clearly using only black and white.
I've found the best way to do this is to keep things simple. My style is minimalist. While I have great admiration for full-color designs using lots of gradated fills and drop shadows and painterly effects, I doubt I'd ever do that myself. My pieces are usually about trying to communicate something very specific. If I add something to a design that gets in the way of communicating that point, I take it out. If I add something that doesn't really enhance the point, I usually take it out. This applies equally, if not more so, to web pages.
I take pride in having a good eye for type, and for using white space well. As long as it's clean, readable and elegant, I'm happy. Our customers seemed to like it, too, so I guess I did all right.
