The Rest of My Life, More or Less

I've put aside the writing for the last year to get this entire section straightened out. Last time I updated this page, I was happy with my writing, but almost everything else was really bringing me down. I hated my job, I couldn't see where my future was leading, my outlook on life was getting terrible. I was deeply in debt, too. Overall, I was a mess.
Now, things are much better. Let's take a look:

Work

Last year, I was still working for CopyMat, stuck in as deep a rut as I could imagine. I really had burned out on your standard desktop publishing stuff; I was tired of retail environments, and I was really tired of getting underpaid.
Here's what I did about it. I engaged the services of an outstanding career counseling firm, Stanley Barber & Associates. They helped me figure out what I was actually good at. This isn't always as obvious as it seems. Lots of things I did on a daily basis, I discounted as trivial, since I did them every day. SBA helped me realize that the stuff you do every day at work is worth being proud of.
In January, I took a position as Information Services Manager at Kennerley-Spratling, Inc. It's been a blast. I'm challenged nearly every day, I don't have to dress up, and it's a short drive to work. Anyway, the core of the job is to administrate a 65-node Windows NT network. The company's website will be up soon--done by real web pros, not by me!

Dawn

Last year, I was painfully single.
This year, I am very happily in a relationship. Dawn is an excellent girlfriend, very kind, caring, fun to be with; she makes me smile and laugh, and everything. She's my reward for all the hard work I did to make my life better.
She's kinda shy, so don't ask me to post a picture or anything. I can tell you that she loves old movies, as well as dogs and cats. Her real passion is cooking; someday she wants to open her own bakery. I'm happily serving as her guinea pig, and I have the spare tire to show for it.
She's pretty much everything I was looking for. I love you, Dawnie!

The Internet

This hasn't changed. I would say I'm probably on the Net over ten hours a day, between work and home. It's an addiction. You know that, which is why you're here. I used to have a "cool links" page, but it's way too much work. Sorry!

Television

Television is evil. There's nothing on worth watching most of the time, but I have it on a lot. It's seductive. It has the power to make you go blind. But it's a part of my life, so there you go. Of course, I only ever watch PBS, The Learning Channel, and Discovery. ;-)

Role-Playing Games

Now this one I will readily admit to and defend. I've been role-playing since I was 12 years old. Over the years, it's evolved from a sophisticated wargaming activity to a group storytelling medium. Though I don't indulge nearly as often now as I did in previous years, I still play once or twice a month. In fact, I devote a whole page to talking about RPGs I like, and why they're a way to fend off the coming Apocalypse.

Star Wars

Do I really have to explain this one?
