Buddy, Long and Anastasia return to The Hollow Leg at the appointed time to ask Bart about the secret door in his basement. The tavern is now full again since the beer is now back up to snuff. Bart is in the middle of interviewing three strange little creatures, who call themselves "kobolds." Their names are Kryten, Rimmer & Kat, and there is supposed to be a fourth—Lister the notorious curry chef. Lister was supposed to interview with Bart for a new position as chef at The Hollow Leg.

Problem is, Lister was kidnapped beneath the Shambles by little dark humanoid creatures. Bart identifies them as "mites," strange servants created a wizard who is now long gone. He suspects the mites have turned Lister into one of their number. After much explanation and questioning, the characters agree to try to rescue Lister. The other three kobolds lead them to an abandoned area several levels down in the Shambles which looks like the top of an old ruined keep. The kobolds then leave the characters to do the actual rescuing, claiming that they "might have missed him in The Hollow Leg."

The three characters start searching the area. First, Anastasia turns up a zombie cat. The undead cat scratches up the druid pretty good before getting squished by the monks. Then Buddy finds a small chimney with smoke coming out of it—too small to descend. After that, Anastasia and Long trip across two giant bees! Yeah, that’s the module said, bees. Buddy gets stung, but Anastasia’s tender mercies keep the poison from hurting him. Finally, the characters find a hidden trap door leading down.

The party descends a steep, narrow passage with several switchbacks. Long spies a secret door at one switchback. The door conceals a hidden guardpost with four mites—none of them looking like Lister. Speaking in eerie unison, they get into a fight with the characters and somehow all get killed! Buddy gets knocked silly, but a heal spell from Anastasia brings him around.

A short time later the party comes across a main hall with eight mites and a human (Smelly Christian) tied up. After a short conversation, it’s apparent Lister isn’t there, so a fight breaks out. The party wins, but Anastasia almost gets killed. In the next room they encounter the mite wizardess, who explains what happened to Lister. Lister is now King of the Mites, and doesn’t remember ever being a kobold. Of all the mites, now only Lister, the queen and the wizardess remain. The party talks to Lister and tricks him into taking off the amulet that transformed him. He turns back into a kobold, and the party seizes him and runs. The end.
