Never Out Of It!

Last night's game was a really frustrating one. The Rockies scored seven runs in the fifth inning thanks to Lowry, Wright and Munter walking six guys. The resulting 8-1 lead isn't what made it frustrating, though. Most blowouts aren't that frustrating, because they're over quick.

This game was frustrating because the Giants roared back, scoring four runs of their own in the bottom of the fifth. In the seventh, eighth, and ninth innings, the Giants had the tying or winning runs in scoring position. That tying run never did score, though, and the boys lost 9-8. It could have been a comeback win for the ages, and it very nearly was, twice. Greene hit a deep fly ball to right field in the ninth that was barely caught. In the eighth, someone hit a sharp grounder that was barely stopped by the Rockies shortstop.

It could have been a comeback for the ages. It should have been. It wasn't. That's frustrating.

Let us not forget, though, how resilient this team is. Doesn't it seem like every time you write them off, either for the day or for the season, they come storming back? You can't kill them. They're the Terminator in the second movie; it might take a big vat of molten iron to finally destroy their playoff hopes.

And that's a good thing.
