Dennis Mize, 1956-2006

I saw this horrible news on The Miniatures Page this morning. Dennis Mize, renowned sculptor of fantasy miniatures, has passed away suddenly. He was only 49.

In the Eighties, as my appreciation of miniature sculpting developed, I learned that the name "D. Mize" on a blister pack portended exciting things. He, Sandra Garrity and Julie Guthrie became the standards by which I measured everything else. Thanks to him, I am now better able to appreciate other sculptors, such as Tom Meier, the Perry twins, and many others.

I purchased quite a few of Dennis' Ral Partha figures back in the day. I have been drifting away from fantasy miniatures, so I have not bought very many of his figures recently. Knowing that there will be no more, I now regret that.

He will be missed. My deepest condolences to his family, friends, colleagues and fans.

A memorial page, including some very fine examples of his recent work, can be found at the Darksword Miniatures site.
