Painting, Painting, All of the Tiny Men...
We paid a visit yesterday to the Ancient & Medieval Conference 2004. This is a brand new historical miniatures wargaming convention in San Ramon, California. While historical wargaming has not traditionally been my thing, I don't need much of an excuse to go look at a dozen games going on all at once. It's always inspirational to check out new painting styles, terrain ideas, rules set, etc. Such was the case yesterday.
So when we got home last night, I finally put the finishing touches on Theoden and that squad of four Rohirrim infantry that I've been neglecting for the last month. I need a new photo of Theoden, as I've corrected the shadows on his face. Might get a chance to do that later this afternoon. My next project is to paint up Gamling (from The Two Towers line) and the last four Rohirrim infantry from that box of 24.
I've uploaded three more pics for your viewing pleasure or horror:
- Eowyn, from The Two Towers line. This was great until I applied a spray "matte" sealer. As a direct result of this figure, I'm giving up using spray sealers for character figs. I now use a brush-on matte varnish from Vallejo paints that dries dead flat. I just hate the "shiny" look on figures that aren't supposed to be shiny.
- The squad of Rohirrim infantry.
- Gandalf, from The Fellowship of the Ring line. I did something unusual for me, and did almost the whole thing in washes, working up from a white primer. It just worked for me in this case.
